Foundation EME – «Listen to understand each other better»
Give the Gift of Music and Share Its Joy
Since its opening in 2005, the Philharmonie Luxembourg, with its varied programme, managed to establish itself as a cultural venue, appealing to all kinds of audiences. On this basis, the Foundation EME – Écouter pour Mieux s’Entendre («Listen to understand each other better»), founded in January 2009, works in close collaboration with the Philharmonie and is dedicated to social work. Highly motivated musicians and volunteers bring music to people who would normally be deprived of the joy, that a live concert produces. The direct encounter with music is a basic need. Every measure taken to make the cultural life accessible to a wider audience boosts social justice.
The foundation's countless activities combine a social and a cultural dimension. They aim to serve a specific group of people who, for various reasons stand outside the traditional sphere of cultural activities – such as children and adults with complex disabilities or reduced mobility, individuals living in difficult situations, the socially disadvantaged, marginalized or isolated people.
The projects which are presented in the board of the Foundation EME as well as the Philharmonie’s good regional and international network, provide the drive for the development of made-to-measure musical offerings for disadvantaged people in a wide variety of situations. Help us share music! With your contribution to the Foundation EME, you donate courage and joy by creating bonds between all the members of society.
Welcome
Invisible social barriers prevent many people from attending cultural venues. Special activities organized by the foundation, will seek to remove these barriers and make it possible for disadvantaged people, to fully participate in cultural life.
Creative projects
Special creative projects are designed to help people with specific needs to play an active role in artistic processes, and thus to overcome social barriers and gain self-confidence. Often, the individual’s creativity is the key to this. What is more, these projects can resort to music therapy.
Musical encounter
Many people are unable to attend concerts in cultural venues. The Foundation EME intends to approach these directly, by organizing concerts in hospitals, hospices, prisons or other unusual venues.
