Standing up against poverty reminds us that extreme poverty and social exclusion, both in Luxembourg and worldwide, are intolerable justices which undermine human rights. The european Year for Combatting Poverty and Social Exclusion, as proclaimed by the European Union, is a good occasion to increase our efforts!
After three years (2007-2009) of positive experiences with a shared singing project, the European Institute of Choral Singing (INECC) wishes to develop an initiative along with some of its partner charities to coincide with the worldwide Stand Up Against Poverty Day on 17 October. A first step in this direction has been taken with the organisation of monthly meetings. These will initially be devoted to meeting and singing, but may also be extended to other activities. Singing workshops coordinated by INECC Director Camille Kerger will be held at the cultural centre 'maison culturelle ATD Quart Monde' (25 rue Beggen).
The dates of the first 5 meetings, on Friday evenings at 7pm, are as follows:
5 March, 2 April, 14 May, 11 June and 16 July 2010.
The main objective of the ' Our Voices Against Poverty' project is to enable access to cultural expression for individuals who are usually excluded from this. A choir has been put together especially for this project; individuals from the genral public, experienced choir singers and people living in poverty in Luxembourg are participating. No musical knowledge is necessary to join the choir; everyone is therefore invited to join in on this great adventure.
