Dimitri Maslennikov

Cello

Dimitri Maslennikov, a Franco-Russian cellist, began his career by winning several prestigious international competitions at an early age, including the Tchaikovsky and Rostropovich competitions. At the age of 14, he entered the Paris Conservatoire on a French government scholarship, graduating unanimously with a First Prize.

He was soon invited to play with renowned orchestras such as the Moscow Soloists, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Prague Radio Orchestra. He performs in exceptional concerts, notably for the United Nations and Queen Elizabeth II.

His collaboration with Christoph Eschenbach marked a turning point: together they recorded Shostakovich's cello concertos and Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations, and performed with the orchestras of Chicago, Philadelphia, Hamburg and Beijing. These projects have taken him to the Berlin Philharmonic and the Schleswig-Holstein and Rheingau festivals.

Dimitri also collaborates with Maestro Youry Temirkanov and the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, notably in Asia. In 2008, he premiered Marc-André Dalbavie's Concerto in New York, then in Salzburg.

Recent projects include a Haydn recording with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and concerts with the Washington and Zurich orchestras. He plays a 1770 Nicolo Gagliano cello with a bow by Charles Peccatte.
