Empowering Voices

"Empowering Voices" is a unique project by the LGBTIQ+ Centre CIGALE and the Fondation EME to provide a creative outlet for LGTBIQ+ refugees through songwriting.

For

  • Disadvantaged people

Time period

September - December 2023

Participants will create original songs and instrumental pieces that reflect their unique voices, stories and experiences as LGTBIQ+ refugees.

The project also aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by LGTBIQ+ refugees, encouraging acceptance and understanding within the wider community.

Ten 2 hours-long workshops will be run by rapper Maz and musician Patrick Miranda (Pleasing). They will provide participants with advice on song structure, writing lyrics, creating melodies and more.

The project will culminate in a public performance at the Philharmonie, where the participants will have the opportunity to perform their songs and play their instruments in front of an audience of community members, supporters and music industry professionals.

By providing LGTBIQ+ refugees with a creative platform to express themselves through music, the Empowering Voices project will not only empower individuals, but also contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society. Through their songs and instruments, participants will share their stories, amplify their voices and inspire others to embrace diversity and support the LGTBIQ+ community.

The project will end in a performance on 7 December 2023 in the Salle de Musique de Chambre at the Philharmonie Luxembourg.
